Abstract

The 5S management approach is recognized as the foundation of lean healthcare, by eliminating all non-value-creating factors to maximize value-added. After 1 year of conducting 5S intervention, the objective of the study was to evaluate the change in the rate of inpatient experience after 5S intervention at the Hospital of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2021. Research method Experimental simulation before and after without a control group. Research subjects are patients who are being managed and treated inpatients at the Hospital of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Using the "Patient experience survey questionnaire during inpatient treatment at the hospital" was built based on version 3.0 of the Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City. Through the intervention process, the patient experience rate increased at admission, hospital stay, hospital fees and discharge. The rate of experience on admission increased from 68.4% to 68.6%, the rate of experience during hospital stay increased from 31.0 to 35.8%, hospital fee payment increased from 78.4% to 86.2% and at hospital discharge increased from 46.8% to 66.4%. The results showed that the overall inpatient experience rate increased from 12.25 to 16.6%. The study showed that the effectiveness of 5S intervention had a positive impact on increasing the rate of good experience in inpatients.
