Abstract

Objective: To describe the current status of the primary caregivers’ knowledge about pressure ulcer prevention care for stroke patients at Bac Giang province general Hospital in 2022. Method: An cross-sectional descriptive study was performed among 138 the primary caregivers of stroke patients at Bac Giang province general Hospital from May 2022 to July 2022. Results: General knowledge about pressure ulcers: 62,3% and 65,2% of primary caregivers have no knowledge of the risk factors and signs of pressure ulcers; Knowledge about changing positions for patients: 42,8% gave incorrect answers about the time it takes to change positions for patients; Knowledge of diet to prevent pressure ulcers: 51,4% lack of knowledge about the patient's water intake; Knowledge of massage and movement for patients: Only 42,8% know the effect of regular massage of skin close to bones in ulcer prevention; Knowledge of hygiene regime for patients: 58% believe that cleaning the skin with hot water and soap helps limit ulcers. Conclusion: Knowledge of primary caregivers about ulcer prevention care for stroke patients is low with 91,3% having poor and moderate knowledge.
