MATERNAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE BEFORE THE BIRTH AND OVERWEIGHT OBESITY STATUS OF CHILDREN AT DONG ANH DISTRICT, HANOI

Abstract

Objectives: The study was conducted on 5236 mothers and preschool children in order to evaluate the relationship between overweight and obesity among pre-school children and reproductive health care characteristics of mothers at Dong Anh district, Hanoi. Research method: cross-sectional study. Results: The prevalence of overweight and obesity in preschool children in Dong Anh was 5.3% and 2.9%, respectively. The factors of maternal health care before birth affecting overweight and obesity of preschool children are maternal BMI ³23, mothers’ weight increase ³12 kg during pregnancy. Factors related to child care characteristics from birth affecting overweight and obesity include child weight ³4,000 grams, weaning before 24 months. Conclusions: A number of factors related to maternal reproductive health care before giving birth and taking care of children from birth have a significant influence on the risk of overweight & obesity of preschool children, so mothers need to pay attention to own reproductive healthcare before birth and take care of the babies right after birth.
