Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients with type 2 diabetes and determine the costs and structure of direct medical expenses related to inpatients with diabetes 2 at Vinh Long City Medical Center 2022. Subjects and research methods: Discharge billing statements and corresponding inpatient medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes treated at VHWs. Results: patients from Vinh Long province (77%), number of treatment days <1 week: 261/400 patients, aged 45-75 years (77.25%), female patients accounted for the majority, with BMI >23 (95.15%), the number of years with the disease from 6-10 is mainly, more than 70% have a family member with diabetes, most of them have high blood pressure and blood glucose level over 7.2 mmol/L. In terms of total direct medical costs, it is VND863,165,942, of which the cost of bed days is the highest (46.96%). In terms of clinical costs, laboratory costs are the highest (VND220,124,500). Regarding the cost of drugs - infusion groups, blood sugar-lowering drugs ranked first with a rate of 37,634%. Conclusion: Most of the patients are from Vinh Long province (308/400 patients), the number of treatment days is less than a week, the age is 45-75 years old, female patient, BMI >23, the number of years of illness is from 6 -10 years, the patient has a family member with diabetes, high blood pressure and blood glucose level above 7.2 mmol/L. Regarding the total direct medical costs of 400 patients, it was VND863,165,942 VND, of which the cost of bed days was the highest (46.96%). The cost of testing is the highest in subclinical. And blood sugar-lowering drugs account for the highest use rate.
