Abstract

Objective: To study some factors affecting direct medical costs of inpatients with diabetes at the Endocrinology Department of Tien Giang Central General Hospital in 2022. Methods: Qualitative study with 04 in-depth interviews with Deputy Director in charge of specialty, Head of Integrated Planning Department, Head of Endocrinology Department and Doctor of Endocrinology to find out the influencing factors. Results: There are two groups of influencing factors: The group that reduces the cost of treatment includes: Knowledge, attitude and adherence to treatment of patients; Medical human resources; The hospital's management policy includes: general management policy, diabetes training program and diabetes management program; Information technology. Groups of factors that increase the cost of treatment include: Complications of diabetes and co-morbidities; Drugs and laboratory tests; Health Insurance. Conclusions and recommendations: Good management of diabetic patients with follow-up visits and outpatient diabetes treatment, investment in foot infections and kidney complications, supplementing the quantity of high-quality and appropriate antibiotics, supplementing human resources for diabetes, enhancing education for patients and their relatives to help reduce treatment costs.
