Abstract

A descriptive study on a seri of cases was conducted on 125 anterior primary teeth of 20 children aged 2 to 5 years old in Thai Nguyen City with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in treating caries. Each child was applied SDF 38% to teeth with extension caries but no signs of pulp disease and was re-evaluated after 1 week, 3 months. Results: After 1 week of treatment, 100% of teeth kept the level of damage and moved to the stable stage. After 3 months of treatment, 92% of teeth remained at the same level of damage, 87.2% of teeth were at the stable stage. 80% of children were satisfied with the treatment time, 85% of children were satisfied with the taste of SDF, 85% of children and 75% of parents did not complain about tooth color. Common side effects were: 35% of children had mucosal irritation, 15% of children had nausea. No one had pain and swelling of gums when applying SDF 38%.
