Abstract

Objective: To describe the status and identify some factors related to the cigarette smoking habits in male pupil in Ly Thuong Kiet High School, Yen Bai city 2023. Research Methods: The cross-sectional descriptive research method with analysis, was conducted through direct interviews with 420 pupils at the time of February 2023. Results: The percentage of male pupil who smoke is 35.2%. Pupils who smoked regular filter cigarettes accounted is 65.6%, used e-cigarettes 21.6%, and smoked water pipes is 12.8%. Some factors related to the smoking rate among male pupil have been identified, including: Access to information on tobacco harm control with OR=2.5 (95% CI 1.358-3,179), p < 0.05; Close friend smokes with OR=3.35 (95% CI 2.087-5.862), p<0.05; Knowledge about harmful effects of tobacco with OR=2.17 (95% CI 1.532-3.876), p < 0.05; Attitude about smoking with OR=2.19 (95% CI 1.736-3.821), p < 0.05; Practice about Tobacco harm prevention OR=3.54 (95% CI 1.072-5.794), p < 0.05. Conclusion: The percentage of male pupil in Ly Thuong Kiet High School, Yen Bai city smoked was 35.2%. The rate of smoking among male pupil is related to access to information about tobacco, smoking close friend, knowledge, attitude and practice on tobacco harm prevention.
