Abstract

Background: It is very important to adhere to the post-injury management process due to sharp objects to avoid unnecessary injuries and prevent exposure to blood-borne diseases such as HBV, HCV, HIV. Objective: To analyze some factors affecting the adherence to the sharp object injury management process by clinical nurses at Tien Giang General Hospital in 2022 (full sample, 300 nurses). Methods: Cross-sectional study combining quantitative and qualitative; According to the order of quantitative conduct first, qualitative follow-up, qualitative research explains the quantitative results. Result: Most nurses adhere to wound management, reporting practices, documentation, and exposure assessment. Personally, the factors that positively affect the compliance with the process include age, seniority, professional qualifications; hindering factors (with little attention to the process) are Male Nurses; The motivating factors (having experience in handling according to the correct process) are seniority, age and professional qualifications. Regarding the management level, there is an equivalent level of influence, having an interwoven effect so that the proper practice of the process includes 03 groups of factors: policy - process - regulation, training - training, and inspection. - monitor; hindering factors are that there is no system to monitor injuries caused by sharp objects, no specific examples in training, no sanctions regime in inspection and supervision; The motivating factors are the development of policies, procedures and regulations for hospitals according to Circular 3671/QD-BYT and the attention of hospital leaders. Conclusion: The majority of nurses adhered to wound management, reporting practices, recording and exposure assessment. Strengthen supervision of compliance with the process, remind male nurses, and strengthen and improve the overall supervision, training and training system, and have a specific reward and sanctions regime.
