Abstract

Background: Colonoscopy is considered to be the best method for the surveillance of colorectal cancer. Currently, there are two methods of colon preparation, including intraday colonoscopy and overnight colonoscopy, and the choice of the method is related to factors that influence outcomes and expected results should be made research. Methods: This is a cohort study with 173 patients who underwent endoscopic colonoscopies during the day and 173 patients who prepared for colonoscopy overnight at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 2 between August 2022, and December 2022. The study assessed the level of cleanliness, analyzed according to the Boston bowel disease preparation scale, and the satisfaction and discomfort response of the patients in the two groups undergoing colonoscopy. Results: The level of fecal cleanliness and the detection of ulcerative colitis and polype between the two groups of colonoscopies on the same day and over different days were similar. However, the acceptance rate of the colon preparation method over different days was higher than the same-day preparation group (p=0.047), with a higher percentage of sleep disturbance (5.2%) in the over different days group compared to the same-day group (p<0.001). Conclusions: Medical staff can advise patients to prepare for colonoscopies during the day to reduce patient time.
