DEMAND FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION OF ALUMNI STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY-VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, HANOI IN 2022 AND RELATED FACTORS

Abstract

Objective: Survey demand for continuing medical education (CME) of alumni students at University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP), Vietnam National University, Hanoi and related factors. Subject and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on the subject of alumni students at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Results: Demand for CME alumni students next time is significantly high (75,3%). In terms of the contents, the medical alumni students would like to ultrasound (15,3%), endoscopy (11,7%), protocol updating (8,8%), internal skin aesthetic (6,6%), assisted reproduction (5,1%), pediatric (3,6%), microsurgery (2,2%) and others (5,8%). Within the pharmacy major, the most content they need is updating pharmacy knowledge (13,9%), clinical pharmacy (6,6%), production and drugs preservation (5,1%), drug testing (2,2%), ADR in hospital (2,2%) and other contents (15%). Regarding education time, alumnis who spent 6 months take the majority with 39.4%, following up in orders are 3-month period, 1-week and finally 1-month and 9-month with the same figures of 6.6%. In terms of location, alumni would like to learn at the hospital (38,7%), training agencies (25,5%), in University of Medicine and Pharmacy (16,1%), online (19,7%). Besides, they expect that the learning costs according to the rules (40,9%), self- sufficient (28,5%), supported (20,4%) and free (10,2%). The alumnis want to join CME for some reasons: updating knowledge (40,9%), enhancing specialization (32,8%), getting certification (21,4%), discussing knowledge (1,5%) and simply like (0,7%). The ratio of alumni students who know about CME is 49,3% when they were studying at their school. Some factors related to CME are age, major, marriage, part-time job, income. A few difficulties at agencies and CME are lack of something as knowledge (24,2%), costs (22,5%), skills (14,5%), time (12,6%), equipments (12,1%), drugs (7,7%), major materials (1,9%) and guiders (0,6%). The ratio without difficulty is 3,9%. Conclusion: The need for continuing medical education for alumni students next time is very high with content training (ultrasound, endoscopy, updating knowledge,…). The educational time is mostly about 6 months at hospital and university, using the learning costs according to the rules.
