Abstract

Aim: Results of systemic corticosteroid therapy in sudden sensorineura hearing loss. Materials and methods: A reView of research articles on the results of systemic corticosteroid treatment in sudden sensorineura hearing loss on the Pubmed, Cochrane, Sciencedirect databases with two independent and consistent eValuations by two researchers. Results: From 550 articles found, 29 articles met the selection criteria for inclusion in the study. Systemic corticosteroids used in the study were Prednisone, Methyperdnisolone, Dexamethasone orally, intraVenously or in combination. With a gradually decreasing dose oVer the course of 1 to 2 weeks of treatment. With the eValuation criteria PTA after treatment > 10 dB has a recoVery rate from 38% to

88.5 % and PTA after treatment decreases > 15 dB has a recoVery rate from 53% to 87% but there is no consensus in PTA calculation, follow-up time, eValuation criteria. Conclusions: Systemic corticosteroids are an accepted treatment because of their recoVery rate of about 38% to 88.5% (Post- treatment PTA >10 dB) and safety. Consider systemic corticosteroid therapy in combination with transatrial corticosteroids for patients with sudden high- frequency deafness and poor prognosis
