Abstract

Introduction: Rapid tests for NS1 antigen and Dengue-specific IgM antibody is one of the commonly used diagnostic techniques for Dengue hemorrhagic feVer. HoweVer, the diagnostic Values giVen by the manufacturer are general Values. Consequently, the actual clinical diagnostic Values of these rapid tests should be eValuated. Objective: To determine the clinical diagnostic Values of the rapid tests for NS1 antigen and Dengue-specific IgM antibody on 3rd, 4th, and 5th day. Subjects and methods: A cross- sectional descriptiVe study was performed on 186 plasma samples of patients who were tested for NS1 antigen and/or Dengue-specific IgM on 3rd, 4th, 5th day of illness by SD Bioline Dengue NS1 Antigen kit and careUS Dengue IgM/IgG kit at Nguyen Tri Phuong hospital. The rapid test results will be compared with RT-realtime PCR to calculate sensitiVity, specificity, positiVe predictiVe Value (PPV), negatiVe predictiVe Value (NPV) of each day for each test. Results: In general, the sensitiVity, specificity, PPV and NPV of NS1 antigen rapid test were 51,2%, 92,9%, 75,9% and 81,3%, respectiVely. The diagnosis Values of NS1 rapid test was highest on the 4th day of illness. The sensitiVity, specificity, PPV and NPV of Dengue Virus specific IgM rapid test were 21,4%, 76,9%, 28,6%, and 69,4%, respectiVely. The diagnosis Values of IgM rapid test increased from 3rd day to 5th day of illness and reached a peak at the 5th day of illness. The diagnostic Values in this study were lower than the diagnosis Values that published by the manufacturer. Conclusions: There were changes in the sensitiVity, specificity, positiVe predictiVe Value and negatiVe predictiVe Value of the rapid tests for NS1 antigen and Dengue-specific IgM antibody from the 3rd day to 5th day of illnessThe NS1 rapid test has the highest efficiency on 4th day of illness, while the IgM rapid test has the highest efficiency on the 5th day of illness.
