Abstract

Objective: Comparison of postoperative results between the two groups using envelope flap and triangular flap in the surgery to remove the wisdom teeth of the mandibular subluxation classified according to Parant II at the Department of Odonto-Stomatology, Bach Mai Hospital in 2022-2023. Method: 80 patients who came to have wisdom teeth removed according to Parant II and III classifications at the Odonto-Stomatology Department of Bach Mai Hospital in 2022-2023 were randomly divided into two groups using envelope flaps and triangular flaps. Research variables include age-gender; painful; swelling; mouth opening range; bleeding after surgery. Results: The mean pain score in the group using the envelope flap was lower than the group using the triangle flap. The degree of swelling after 2 days of surgery of the group using the envelope flap was lower than that of the group using the triangle flap; there was no statistically significant difference between these two groups when assessed at 7 and 14 days. The range of mouth opening of the two groups was within the normal range and there was no difference between the two groups at 7 and 14 days after surgery. After 2 days of surgery, the group using the envelope flap had a larger opening amplitude than the triangle flap group. There was no difference in the degree of postoperative bleeding and complications in tooth extraction of the two study groups. The mean surgical time when using envelope flap was lower than in the group using triangle flap. Conclusion: The mean pain score and surgery time were lower in the envelope flap group than in the triangle flap group. The degree of swelling and the amplitude of mouth opening of the envelope flap group improved after 2 days of surgery but there was no difference after 7 and 14 days of surgery. There was no difference in the degree of postoperative bleeding and complications in tooth extraction of the two study groups.
