SOME FACTORS RELATED TO STUNTING AND OVERWEIGHT/OBESITY IN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN TUYEN QUANG PROVINCE IN 2021

Abstract

The nutritional status of adolescents is one of the factors affecting the disease status and stature of future generations. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 2998 high school students in Tuyen Quang province to determine some factors related to stunting status and overweight/obesity. The results showed that household economy (poor, near-poor), father's occupation (farming), mother's education level (from lower secondary school), ethnicity (other), and gender (female) increase the risk of stunting, respectively (OR and 95% CI) of 1.43 (1.12-1.83); 1.40 (1.10-1.80); 1.43(1.13-1.81); 1.47 (1.19-1.83); 1.42(1.13-1.81). Normal household economy, mother's occupation different from farming, residential location (urban), gender (male) increase the risk of overweight and obesity. It is necessary to focus on implementing overweight/obesity control activities in parallel with preventing stunting in rural, mountainous, and disadvantaged areas and paying attention to gender and household economic characteristics.
