Abstract

Objective: Compare the median PAPP-A values on the Immulite 2000 system by Siemens and the BRAHMS plus KRYPTOR system. Subjects and methods: a retrospective study was conducted on data and results from 437 pregnant women to compare the median PAPP-A values for each gestational week in the first trimester between the two testing systems. PAPP-A was quantified using the CLIA technique on the Immulite 2000 system and the TRACETM technique on the BRAHMS plus KRYPTOR system. Data analysis and statistical analysis were performed using SPSS. Results: The PAPP-A values increased from the 11th to the 13th gestational week. The median PAPP-A values on the Immulite system for weeks 11, 12, and 13 were 2.55, 3.54, and 6.6 mIU/ml, respectively, significantly lower compared to the median PAPP-A values obtained on the BRAHMS plus KRYPTOR system, which were 3.57, 5.55, and 6.55 mIU/ml. The correlation in concentration between the two machines is low, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.06. No statistically significant difference was observed in week 13. Conclusion: The median PAPP-A concentration gradually increases from the 11th to the 13th gestational week. The two testing systems, using different quantification methods for PAPP-A, yield significantly different results. It is necessary to establish median PAPP-A values for each system for Vietnamese pregnant women to accurately determine the risk of preterm delivery and trisomy.
