Abstract

Our study aimed to evaluate the influence of patients' mental behavioral disorders on the burden of caring for Alzheimer's patients. Method: The study was conducted on 52 primary caregivers of moderate-stage Alzheimer's patients, examined or treated at the National Hospital of Geriatrics from August 2019 to June 2020. In which, we evaluated burden of care for Alzheimer's patients based on the Zarit burden of care (ZBI) interview questionnaire; assess the patient's mental and behavioral disorders and the impact of symptoms on caregivers based on the NPI neuropsychological checklist. Results: the patient's mental behavioral disorder was linearly related to the burden of care (r = 0.650, p = 0.000). In which, paranoid symptoms have a fairly close linear correlation (r = 0.616, p < 0.000), agitation symptoms (r = 0.477, p = 0.000) and hallucinations (r = 0.494, p = 0.000) respectively average linear correlation, nocturnal behavioral disorders (r=0.281, p=0.000) low linear correlation. Thereby, we recommend to treat mental and behavioral disorders of moderate Alzheimer's patients in order to reduce the burden on caregivers.
