SOME FACTORS AFFECTING ANTERIOR PRIMARY INCISORS RESTORATION NEEDS OF CHILDREN

Abstract

Inspite of having high success and low consequence rate, the application of restoration method on primary teeth is limited in Vietnam. This study was carried out to evaluate several factors that affect anterior primary restoration needs of children and their parents. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on 170 children 5-8 years old and 340 parents at School of Dentistry, Hanoi Medical University and Dental Department – Thanh Nhan Hospital from 8/2021 to 6/2022. Results: The percentage of mother wanting to have crown and esthetic restoration was 26,5% and 19,9%. The percentage of parent wanting to have zirconia crown and esthetic restoration was 50% and 28% in groups of graduated and post-graduated, while was 0% and 11,6% in group of graduated from high school. The percentage of parent wanting to have zirconia crown was 71,9 % and 0% in group of those who income is over 20 million and under 10 million per month, respectively. In chidren, the percentage of boys and girls wanting to have zirconia crown was 61,7% and 64,5%; in group of 7-8 years old the percentage of those who chose zirconia crown was 77,9% and restoration with composite was 67,8%; in group of 5-6 years old was 55% for each choice. Conclusions: The higher the parent education, the higher the need for anterior esthetic restorations. Careers and income of the parent has involved the needs for anterior esthetic restorations. The girl has higher need than boy in esthetic restoration, the older child has better awareness of aesthetic than younger.
