Abstract

Objectives: to evaluate the results of decompressive craniectomy, remove hematoma and patch the dura to treat acute subdural hematoma due to traumatic brain injury. Methods: 49 patients were indicated for surgery from January 2021 to June 2022. Describe clinical symptoms and evaluate results after 6 months of surgery. Results: Mean age was 47.3 ± 16.5. There were 39 male and 10 female patients. Hospitalization with the reason of coma was 49.6%. 18.3% of patients had symptoms of decorticate – decerebrate and pupil dilation was 40.8%. The mean preoperative Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) was 8.5 ± 2.9. Results at 6 months after surgery GOS IV, V) was 45.9%. Mortality was 18.4%. GCS, pupil dilation and motor paralysis are the factors that affect the surgical outcome. Conclusion: Decompressive craniectomy to treat acute subdural hematoma due to traumatic brain injury is high efficiency. Surgery are performed early will restore good postoperative nerve function.
