PREVALENCE AND STATUS OF PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF RENAL COMPLICATIONS IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AT CAI NUOC GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2022-2023

Abstract
Background: Renal complication in patients with diabetes is one of the most common chronic complications and the leading cause of kidney failure. The early prevention as well as detection of renal complications in patients with type 2 diabetes is extremely essential. Objective: Determining the prevalence of type 2 diabetes with renal complications and the status of prevention and control of renal complications in patients with type 2 diabetes at Cai Nuoc General Hospital in 2022-2023. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 399 patients with type 2 diabetes who came for outpatient examination and treatment at the Outpatient Department, Cai Nuoc General Hospital between July 2022 and February 2023. Results: The rate of patients with type 2 diabetes having renal complications was 28.57%. Classification of chronic kidney disease stages in patients with type 2 diabetes according to KDIGO (2012) was mainly stage 3 (stage 3a: 60.53% and stage 3b: 24.56%). The percentage of patients who correctly practiced all 5 contents of renal complication prevention (smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, physical activity, medication adherence) was 14.04%. Conclusion: The rate of type 2 diabetes patients with renal complications at Cai Nuoc General Hospital in 2022-2023 was quite high (28.57%), mainly stage 3 according to KDIGO classification in 2012. The rate of patients with correct practice on prevention of renal complications was quite low (14.04%).
