Abstract

Objective: Analysis of some factors related to suicidal ideation in inpatients with recurrent depressive disorder. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study of 81 patients with recurrent depressive disorder inpatient treatment at the Mental Health Institute - Bach Mai Hospital from October 2022 to June 2023. Results: The majority of patients were female (70.4%), and 66.7% of patients had suicidal ideation. There was a relationship between suicidal ideation and age (OR = 3.793; 1.252 – 11,494), history of suicidal ideation (OR = 6,786; 1.448 – 31,804), Hamilton depression scale score (OR = 5.5; 1,751 – 17,273); No association was found between gender, geography, education level, history of Nonsuicidal Self-Injury and suicide attempts, lack of emotional response, and worsening morning depression. Conclusion: There is a relationship between age, history of suicidal ideation, symptoms of slowness/agitation, and high scores on the Hamilton depression scale with suicidal ideation in inpatients with recurrent depression. No relationship was found between factors such as gender, geography, education level, history of  Nonsuicidal Self-Injury and suicide attempts, and clinical features such as lack of emotional response and worsening morning depression with suicidal ideation in this group of patients.
