Abstract

Simultaneous kidney and heart transplant is an optimum treatment for end stage cardiorenal syndrome. We report a first successful simultaneous kidney and heart transplant in Vietnam. A 37-year-old male patient had chronic renal failure due to IgA nephropathy, dependent on dialysis and end-stage heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy with left ventricular systolic function less than 30%. The patient underwent a simultaneous heart and kidney transplant from a brain-dead multi-organ donor on February 15, 2023 at Viet Duc University Hospital. He had quick recovery and was discharged after 4 weeks after. The function of heart and kidney grafts at the time of discharge were normal.
