Abstract

Background: Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration are common diseases globally. These diseases are susceptible to recurrence and impose significant treatment costs on patients. Objectives: identifying the direct medical costs of outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration and factors related to direct medical costs of outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration in Hoa Hao-Medic Can Tho general hospital in 2022-2023. Materials and methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 408 prescriptions and cost sheets  of  outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration in Hoa Hao-Medic Can Tho general hospital. Data were collected and analyzed by using Excel 2016 and SPSS 22.0 software. Results: total direct medical cost of  outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration was 1,357,549,646 VND, the average direct medical cost per patient was 3,327,327 VND. Diagnostic imaging costs accounted for high proportions of 42.48%. Cormobidities and health insurance levels related to direct medical costs of  outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration (p<0.05). Conclusions: This research elucidated the average direct medical costs of outpatients with Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric-duodenal inflammation and ulceration and underscored the significance of comorbidities and health insurance to direct medical costs.
