Abstract

The objective of the study was the rate of left ventricular thickening on the electrocardiogram in hypertensive patients and some related risk factors from 18 years of age and older in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City. A cross-sectional study was carried out from November 2022 to April 2023, using a multi-step cluster sampling method, collecting data from anthropometric indicators and indicators related to left ventricular thickening on electrocardiogram. A total of 1521 subjects were surveyed. There were 606 subjects diagnosed with hypertension (old and new hypertension), accounting for 39.8%, of which new hypertension was 53 subjects, accounting for 3.5%. Of 606 hypertensive subjects who underwent electrocardiogram, 63 subjects (10.4%) were diagnosed with left ventricular hypertrophy. Factors related to left ventricular hypertrophy of hypertensive patients include: gender, WHR, HATTr (p<0.05). Research has demonstrated that hypertension is associated with left ventricular hypertrophy and that patients with hypertension should pay attention to left ventricular problems and cardiovascular diseases.
