Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to assess palliative care needs and some related factors in older people with heart failure in 108 Military Central Hospital. Subjects and methods: This cross-sectional study investigated heart failure patients in 108 Military Central Hospital. Research is conducted from March to June 2023. An Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale (IPOS) is used for measurement. Results: A total of 161 patients were included. More than half on the researchers are male (68.9%), the average age of 69.5±11.9 years old. Pain, dyspnea, fatigue were frequent symptoms in HF patients. The level of anxiety about illness, treament, feelings of depression, frustration and depression were recorded at sometimes/occasionally, a small number of participants reported at most of the time and always. Mentally, feeling at peace, sharing feelings with family/friends, getting information about illness when needed are mostly noted occasionally and most of the time. Most of the participants were treated with problems arising from illness. Conclusions: Based on the study results, the majority of elderly patients with heart failure have a need for palliative care (52.8%). This study shows that there is a relationship between occupational factors, number of hospitalizations and the need for palliative care with p<0.05.
