Abstract

Objectives: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the accuracy of implant placement surgery using surgical guide fabricated with 3D printing technology in cases of full-arch fixed implant rehabilitation. Materials and methods: This case series study on 9 fully or partially edentulous arches indicated for full-arch fixed implant rehabilitation. A total of 40 implants were placed using 3D printed surgical guide, the accuracy of the surgical guide was evaluated by measuring the deviations in angle and distances between virtually planned and actual placed implant positions. Results: The mean deviations between virtually planned and actual placed implants were 4.54±1.31 degrees, 1.33±0.48 mm, and 1.92±0.63 mm for angular deviation, cervical deviation, and apical deviation, respectively. The mean vertical deviation at the cervical and apical point was respectively 0.26±0.09 mm and 0.51±0.18 mm. Comparing the deviations between fully and partially edentulous groups, the fully edentulous group had higher deviations than partially edentulous group in all variables. Conclusion: Although implant placement surgery for full-arch fixed implant rehabilitation with static guided surgery still had a certain level of inaccuracy, it was within acceptable limits in clinical practice. In cases of partial edentulous patients, the implant positions showed less deviation compared to fully edentulous patients.
