KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND TRAINING NEEDS TOWARDS FIRST AID AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY AT HO CHI MINH CITY, 2020-2021

Abstract
Objectives: To analyse medical students’ first-aid knowledge and attitude, and to investigate their training needs. Subjects and methods: This was a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey of 494 first- to sixth-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City. Results: 428 students (86.64%) had satisfactory first aid; 25.1% had a positive general attitude about first aid. 95,55% of students reported that they had a need for first aid training; ‘included as part of the main course’ and ‘extracurricular drills’ were the most chosen training methods. Conclusions: Medical students' knowledge and attitude about first aid were still limited while the need for training is very high. It is necessary to have more educational programs, and students need to cultivate knowledge and practice first aid skills actively.
