Abstract

Objects: To compare the effectiveness of Granisetrone and Ondansetrone in preventing nausea and vomiting in women undergoing spinal anesthesia for cesarean section. Methods: RCT study on 100 patients divided into two groups. Group 1: Using Granisetrone 1mg injection before spinal anesthesia. Group 2: Using Ondansetrone 1mg injection before spinal anesthesia. Results: Both study groups had a statistically significant lower rate of nausea and vomiting, with the theoretical risk of nausea and vomiting corresponding to the Apfel scores. (p > 0.05). In the intraoperative period and early postoperative period, the rates of nausea and vomiting in the two study groups were similar (p > 0.05). In the late postoperative period (6–24 hours after surgery), the rate of nausea and vomiting in group 1 was statistically significantly lower than in group 2, with p < 0.05 (0% and 12%). Conclusion: Granisetrone has a long-lasting and superior efficacy in preventing post operative nausea vomiting (PONV) and it is superior to Ondansetrone in the late postoperative period in the first 24 hours after surgery in women undergoing spinal anesthesia for cesarean section.
