Abstract

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a valuable tool for endodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphology of the mandibular first molar canal. CBCT of 315 patients was used. The results are as follows: 88.7% of the lower 6th teeth have 2 roots, 11.3% of the lower 6th teeth have 3 roots. 55.6% of mandibular sixth teeth have 2 separate canals in the mesial root (Vertucci IV). 77.1% of the mandibular sixth teeth have only one root canal (Vertucci I). The difference in the number of roots as well as the right and left canal morphology was not statistically significant. The difference in number of roots as well as root canal morphology in men and women was not statistically significant.
