CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION IN OUTPATIENTS

Abstract
Physical symptoms are very common in the depressive episode, these symptoms affect the function, quality of life of the patient and are significant in the prognosis of the disease. In Vietnam, studies on physical symptoms in depressed patients are limited. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics of the physical symptoms of the depressive episode in outpatients at the National Institute of Mental Health. Subjects of the study: 75 patients diagnosed with depressive episodes according to ICD-10 diagnostic criteria and treated as outpatients at the National Institute of Mental Health - Bach Mai Hospital with at least 1 physical symptom from 01/2020 to 12/2020. Results: The most common physical symptoms were 76% of loss of interest, 76% of psychomotor retardation; and symptoms ofsignificant reduction in sexual arousal were more common in men with a rate of 62.3%. Patients with very severe depression according to the HAM D scale had the number of somatic symptoms 4.9 ± 1.32 greater than the number of somatic symptoms in patients with mild depression 3.88 ± 1.32, the difference was significantly statistical with p < 0.05. 61.1% was the rate of poor quality of life in patients with very severe depression.
