Abstract

Objective: To determine the mean score of quality of life and related factors in patients with type

diabetes undergoing outpatient treatment at the University Medical Center at Ho Chi Minh City (UMC HCMC) in 2023. Subjects and Methods: A cross- sectional study was conducted on 160 patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing outpatient treatment at the UMC HCMC. The SF-36 scale was used to assess the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes. The data were collected by direct interview method. Results: The mean score of overall quality of life of patients with diabetes was 70.1±14.2 points. The mean quality of life scores for the physical and mental health domains were 65.0±18.8 and 75.2±12.6, respectively. The study found an association between physical health quality of life scores and age group, education level, treatments, and comorbidities. Factors associated with overall quality of life scores were found to include education level and treatments. Conclusion: Patients with type 2 diabetes have low quality of life scores, especially in terms of general health and sense of vitality. Patients who are elderly, have low educational attainment, have other comorbidities and are being treated with insulin injections need to be more concerned about their physical and mental health to improve the patient's quality of life
