EVALUATION OF RESULTS CYTOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PERITONEAL LAVAGE FLUID IN GASTRIC CANCER SURGERY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: Review the results of cytological analysis of peritoneal lavage fluid in patients undergoing radical surgery for gastric cancer & Survey the relationship of some histopathological features with the presence of tumor cells in peritoneal lavage fluid in the above group of subjects. Methods: Prospective cross – sectional description. Results: Statistics show that 5% of cases have tumor cells present in the peritoneal cavity washing fluid and the techniques: routine cell staining & cell-block are commonly applied (97.4%). However, the survey of pathological characteristics has not recorded histopathological factors in the research criteria that are related to the status of peritoneal cavity washing fluid in gastric cancer surgery (the difference is not significant, p>0.05). Conclusion: The rate of positive peritoneal lavage fluid in the group of patients undergoing radical surgery for gastric cancer is low (5%) and have not identified histopathological factors related to the presence of tumor cells in peritoneal cavity lavage fluid.
