Abstract

Objective: We investigated the relationship between serum ferritin level and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Method: A case control study (ratio 1:2) was conducted with 240 pregnant women with gestational age from 24-18 weeks visiting the Obstetrics Clinic of Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children, from June 2021 to June 2022 (80 pregnant women with GDM as cases & 160 pregnant women without GDM as controls according to diagnostic criteria of the American Diabetes Association, 2021). Results: The group of pregnant women with serum ferritin level ≥ 30ng/ml had a 2,59 times higher risk of GDM (95% CI = 1,12-6,01) than the group of pregnant women with serum ferritin level <15 ng/ml (p<0,05). Conclusion: There is an association between serum ferritin levels and gestational diabetes, high serum ferritin increases the risk of gestational diabetes
