MANUTRITIONAL STATUS IN OLDER PEOPLE AT NATIONAL GERIATRIC HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: Describe the current situation of malnutrition and some related factors in elderly patients at the National Geriatric Hospital. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on patients ≥ 60 years old who came for outpatient examination and treatment at the Central Geriatric Hospital. Patients were assessed for malnutrition according to GLIM criteria (selecting subjects at risk of malnutrition and undernutrition using the MNA toolkit, assessing the etiological criteria related to diet, inflammatory status and digestion). Phenotypic indicators of body weight loss, BMI, and muscle mass confirmed by BIA as well as factors related to malnutrition to daily functioning (ADL, IADL), cognitive impairment MMSE, depression/anxiety level (Mini GDS) Results: The average age of the study subjects was 74.6 ± 7.3, the proportion of female accounted for 72.9%. Malnutrition rate 25.6%. There is a statistically significant relationship between age, living alone, impaired daily functioning (ADL), impaired daily functioning with the use of tools and equipment (IADL), impaired cognition (MMSE), depression/anxiety levels to malnutrition. Conclusion: Malnutrition is a common problem and GLIM assessment is valuable in diagnosing malnutrition in a comprehensive way in elderly patients. Longitudinal and community-based follow-up studies are needed to better assess the causal relationship between malnutrition and adverse events.
