USING DETECTOR DYES FOR RESIN COMPOSITE RESTORATION: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Background: Marginal leakage, recurrent caries with composite restoration is a complicated process, the polymerization shrinks to create a leakage, the shrinking process continues long after filling. The is still wet, experiencing hot and cold exposure in the mouth are the causes. The method of staining tooth enamel, infected dentin or weak dentin structure helps to evaluate and control the marginal leakage, detect weak tissue, and infected dentin, that needs to be removed. Purpose: This study aims to report the results of detecting marginal leakage, recurrent caries, dentin enamel by detector dyes to restore stable tooth structure. Methods: We report on a case of a 34-year-old Vietnamese female patient, with resin composite restoration 3 years ago, presented with the chief complaints of high dental sensibility when drinking cold water and chewing food. It is discoloration in marginal around composite restoration. The method of removing recurrent caries, detecting the marginal leakage with detector dyes to completely remove the affected tooth structure. Results: The patient completely eliminated the symptoms of sensitivity when drinking cold water and chewing food. Conclusion: The method of detector dyes helps to detect lesions that cannot be recognized by the naked eye. It help to remove effectively affected enamel and dentin, so that the resin composite restoration can be stable without marginal leakage causing patients to suffer from postoperative sensitivity
