KNOWLEDGE ON ACUTE DIARRHEA OF MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD BEING TREATED AT VINMEC TIMES CITY HOSPITAL IN 2023 AND SOME RELATED FACTORS

Abstract
Objectives: Assessment of the knowledge of maternal with children under 5 years old who were receiving treatment at Vinmec Times City Hospital in 2023 on acute diarrhea and analyzing relevant factors. Methodology: Analytical cross – sectional description. Results: The outcomes of the study reveal that 33.2% of the surveyed mothers possessed accurate overall knowledge on acute diarrhea. In which, 61.1% demonstrated a correct comprehension of the disease's definition, 65.4% accurately identified its causes, 61.5% correctly recognized signs of dehydration, 64.1% were knowledgeable about indicators necessitating medical attention for their children, 45.2% exhibited proper awareness of disease prevention, and 53.2% had accurate knowledge regarding the use of Oresol for electrolyte replacement in children. Furthermore, a statistically significant association was observed between mothers' knowledge of acute diarrhea and several variables including age, occupation, economic status, educational attainment, and place of residence. Conclusion: The study strongly suggested further research on knowledge about acute diarrhea of mothers with children under 5 years old and other related factors such as access to information sources, number of children in the family, the child's health status, the number of times the child has acute diarrhea, etc.
