CASE REPORT: SYNCHOROUS TRIPLE PRIMARY SQUAMOUS CELL ESOPHAGEAL CARRCINOMA WELL-RESPONDED TO CONCURRENT CHEMORADIOTHERAPY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Esophageal cancer is a common disease worldwide and in Vietnam. Asia is a hotspot for esophageal cancer with approximately 80% of new cases and deaths from esophageal cancer occurring annually. Currently, guidelines for treating typical cases of esophageal cancer are relatively comprehensive. However, there are still special and rare cases that have not been uniformly treated. The location of the tumor is an important consideration when selecting a treatment for esophageal cancer. The majority of esophageal cancer cases involve only one tumor, while cases with two tumors in two segments are very rare, and cases with three tumors in three segments are considered extremely rare. We report a rare clinical case of esophageal cancer with tumors in three different locations in a 62-year-old male patient who complete-responded to concurrent chemoradiotherapy with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The patient achieved disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of 36 months up to the present time. The objective of this report is to contribute the information of a rare case to medical literature and emphasize the role of concurrent chemoradiotherapy with intensity-modulated radiation therapy in treating esophageal cancer.
