CHARACTERISTICS OF NATURALLY CONCEIVED AND IVF TWINS ABOVE 28 GESTATIONAL WEEKS

Abstract

Objectives: To determine the incidence and characteristics of naturally conceived and IVF twin pregnancies above 28 gestational weeks at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Methods: Our cross-sectional study selected 515 twins from July 2020 to December 2020. Results: The incidence of twins were 1.6%; 56.3% were conceived naturally and 43.7% by assisted reproduction. Maternal age 25-34 group accounted for the highest rate (72.4% in naturally conceived and 66.2% in IVF twins). The mean gestational age at delivery of naturally conceived was 36.1 ± 2.1 weeks and IVF pairs was 35.9 ± 2.3 weeks. The rate of dizygotic in natural twins was 53.3% and 97.9% in IVF twins. The rate of cesareasn section in spontaneous twin pregnancies was 84.4% and IVF pairs was 94.1%. Conclusion: The rate of dizygotic and the rate of cesarean section were higher significantly than in the IVF group.
