CLINICAL AND SUBCLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENTS WITH CELLULITIS RECEIVED EMERGENCY TREATMENT AT BACH MAI HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: Describes the clinical and subclinical characteristics of patients with cellulitis received emergency treatment at Bach Mai Hospital. Materials  and  method: This  is  a  cross-sectional study,   was   performed  through 76 patients diagnosed with cellulitis and treated at the Emergency Center A9 of Bach Mai Hospital from July 2022 to July 2023. Results: 72.37% of cases were found in males; the average age was 59.9 ± 14.9 years; mostly within the age group of 45-65 years (45.06%); the average duration of symptoms before admission was 10.75 ± 14.75 days; the average length of hospital stay was 10.53 ± 7.68 days; the lower limbs were the most common site of cellulitis (51.32%); ultrasound was the predominant imaging modality used for cellulitis diagnosis (76.32%); the rate of positive blood cultures was low (7.89%). Conclusion: Cellulitis is common in men and the location of damage is mainly the lower limbs. Patients with cellulitis have fever and often have accompanying diabetes. The majority of blood culture and blister fluid/pus culture results were negative. Ultrasound plays an important role in diagnosing cellulitis.
