Abstract

Objective: To describe and compare ultrasound characteristics of hand joints damage in rheumatoid arthritis patients and psoriatic arthritis patients. Subjects and method: The study on 13 psoriatic arthritis patients and 12 rheumatoid arthritis patients with symptoms of swelling and/or pain in the hand joints (metacarpophalangeal joints, proximal interphalangeal joints, distal interphalangeal joints) treated at Bach Mai hospital from January 2023 to August 2023. Results: A total of 25 joints in 13 psoriatic arthritis patients were assessed. In 25 joints surveyed, 18 joints had synovitis (accounting for 72%), 2 joints had flexor tendonitis (accounting for 8.0%), 8 joints had extensor tendonitis (accounting for 32.0%), 8 joints had bone erosion (accounting for 32.0%) and 2 joints had effsion (accounting for 8.0%). In rheumatoid arthritis patients, a total of 28 joints in 12 patients were assessed. In the 28 joints, 13 joints had synovitis (accounting for 46.4%), 22 joints had flexor tendonitis (accounting for 78.6%), 3 joints had extensor tendonitis (accounting for 10.7%), 3 joints had bone erosion (accounting for 10.7%) and 3 joints had effusion (accounting for 10.7%).
