Abstract

Objective: Describe the clinical characteristics and X-ray images of facet joint degeneration of the low cervical spine and comment on the relationship between clinical characteristics and X-ray lesions of facet joint osteoarthritis of the low cervical spine. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study including 64 patients diagnosed with facet joint osteoarthritis of the cervical spine, examined at the On-Demand Examination Department - Bach Mai Hospital from November 2022 to October. April 2023, recorded the patient's clinical and X-ray characteristics. Results: Patients with cervical spondylosis had an average age of 59.9 ± 9.4 years and the majority were 50 years old or older (90.6%), more women than men. Patients who came for examination had a rate of severe pain of 14.1%. 84.4% of patients have limited movement and 90.6% have effects of cervical spine degeneration on daily function. The highest rate of facet joint degeneration is C5-C6, accounting for 46.8%, and the lowest rate is C3-C4 facet joint, accounting for 29.7%. The most common level of degeneration is level 3, accounting for 64.1%. The range of motion characteristics of flexion, extension, rotation, and tilt of the cervical spine, NPQ daily function, and pain level according to VAS are all proportionally affected by the level of cervical spine degeneration. Conclusion: Cervical spondylosis is common from 50 years of age and older and at the C5-C6 facet joints with the degree of impact on the patient's life increasing with the level of cervical facet joint degeneration.
