Abstract

Objectives: to overview the results of SARS-CoV-2 which can be controlled by some mouthwash products containing povidone-iodine (PVP-I) in the period 2019-2023. Subjects and methods: The study collected all articles on some databases such as: Pubmed, ScienceDirect from January 2019 to May 2023. We extracted the data of author, year of publication, country, sample size, follow-up time, intervention, results in the included studies. We assessed the quality of the articles by using the RoBA scale. Results: From 137 articles, ten articles were selected which met the criteria for inclusion. There are seven studies that showed positive results as using PVP-I can helps reduce the load of SARS-CoV-2. Concentration, mouthwash time with PVP-I and time of viral load reduction were 0.5% and 30 seconds at 6 hours, 0.5% and 60 seconds at 45 minutes, 1% and 60 seconds at 45 minutes and 60 minutes. Conclusion: Mouthwash containing PVP-I concentrations of 0.5% and 1% for 30 seconds and 60 seconds can be effective in reducing SARS-CoV-2 load in saliva reduced the SARS-CoV-2 load in saliva at 45 minutes, 60 minutes and 6 hours. There is a lack of research evidence on the antiviral ability of solutions containing PVP-I.
