Abstract

Results: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 311 mothers with children aged 0-6 months in Hanoi in 2020 to determine some factors related to the mother's weight gain during pregnancy. Some factors related to weight gain not following IOM recommendations include: Women with BMI <18.5 kg/m2 before pregnancy (OR=2.2; 95% CI: 1, 1 - 4.7; p <0.05) and the average monthly income per capita ≤ average (OR=2.4; 95% CI: 1.01 - 5.7; p<0.05). Women who were overweight - obese (BMI ≥ 25kg/m2) before pregnancy were 5.6 times more likely to gain excess weight than other women (OR=5.6; 95% CI: 1.5 - 20.6; p<0.001). Conclusion: The mother's nutritional status before pregnancy and the family's economic conditions are related to the mother's weight gain during pregnancy.
