THE PREVALENCE AND SOME RISK FACTORS FOR GROUP B STREPTOCOCCAL INFECTION IN PREGNANT
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To determine the prevalence and some related factors for group B streptococcal infection (GSB) in pregnant women aged 35-37 weeks at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology (BVPSTW). Subjects and methods: The research method is descriptive prospective. Diagnosis of pregnancy with GBS is based on culture, isolation, and identification of the bacteria by vaginal fluid samples from 35 to 37 weeks gestation. Results: During the study period, 290 pregnant women were tested for group B streptococcus at BVPSTW. The rate of pregnant women carrying GBS during pregnancy is 20.7%, with some related characteristics as follows: pregnant women aged 25-29 make up most of the rate 40.34%, pregnant women have a college education "College, Undergraduate, Postgraduate" has the highest rate of 81.73%, women in the study who have never had one and have had one time have approximately the same rate with 37.24% and 38.96%. The percentage of women who have had 2 or more times accounted for 23.8%. Conclusion: The rate of pregnant women infected with group B streptococcus is still high, mainly related to the hygiene behavior of pregnant women.
