RESULTS OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY FOR TREATMENT OF BENIGN URACHAL CYSTS AT HANOI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to show the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and results of laparoscopic surgery for treatment of benign urachal cysts at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, through a retrospective study on 40 patients were diagnosed with urachal cysts and underwent surgery at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from January 2018 to September 2023. Research results showed that the average age of the study was 33.1 years old. The age group most commonly affected by the disease is from 21 to 40 years old, the ratio of men and women is approximately 2:1. There are 5 main groups of symptoms that cause patients to be hospitalized: fluid discharge around the navel and abdominal pain around the navel accounting for 27.5%, yellow fluid discharge from the navel accounting for 25%, abdominal pain symptoms accounting for 22.5%, and patients feeling it themselves. Umbilical mass and urinary disorders have a rate of 7.5%. Regarding paraclinical, the rate of diagnosis of urachal cyst by ultrasound is 82.5% and by computed tomography is 77.5%. The study showed a difference in the rate of accurate diagnosis of urachal cyst by ultrasound and computed tomography are not statistically significant with p>0.05. Regarding umbilicus-sparing laparoscopic, the average surgery time is 68.8±31.4 minutes, the hospital stay after surgery is 5.65±1.69 days, the most common complication is surgical wound infection accounting for 5%. All patients in our study had benign pathology results and had no complications of cancer.
