Abstract

Objective: Review the results of combined surgical treatments of mandibular angle fractures with screws at the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in 2022-2023. Subjects and methods: Patients diagnosed with mandibular angle fractures and undergoing bone fusion surgery with screws at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Hanoi National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology since July 2022 to July 2023. The study design is a descriptive case series study. The sample size was 40 patients. Collect necessary information related to research based on medical records and X-rays necessary for diagnosis and treatment planning, post-operative monitoring, and assessment of the patient at the time of surgery, 1 week after surgery, after removing the fixed jaw and making a follow-up appointment after 3 months. Results: Mandibular angle fractures are mainly found in men, accounting for 75%; The common age group is 20-40 years old. The average age was 27.4 ± 11.4 years; The youngest age is 5 and the oldest is 60 years old. Evaluating treatment results 1 week after surgery, 80% of patients achieved good results; After removing the jaw fixation, 90% of patients achieved good results; 3 months after surgery, 92.5% of patients achieved good results and 0 cases of patients achieved poor results at all 3 evaluation times. The two most common complications 1 week after surgery are infection and numbness of the lower lip. There were 2/40 cases (5%) with complications 3 months after surgery. Conclusion: Surgical treatment of mandibular angle fractures with screws shows very good healing effects, ensuring chewing function and facial aesthetics for patients after surgery. It is necessary to pay attention to possible complications during treatment so that they can be prevented and treated promptly.
