Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the analgesic and improving daily activities effects of catgut  embedding therapy combined with Cao thong ty in treating back pain patients due to lumbar spondylosis. Methods: Controlled clinical interventional study, compare before and after treatment. 60 patients were divided into 2 groups, the study group was administered catgut embedding therapy combined with oral administration of Cao thong ty, the control group was administered electroacupuncture combined with Cao thong ty. The duration of treatment was 20 days. Results: After treatment, the pain severity according to VAS of the study group decreased from 5.68 ± 0.46 points to 1.83 ± 0.75 points (p < 0.05); comparable to the pain severity after treatment of the control group (p > 0.05). The patients’ daily activities in the control group were improved better than those at the baseline (p < 0.05), the outcomes of the study group was comparable to those of the control group (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Catgut embedding therapy combined with Cao thong ty was effective in reducing pain and improving the daily activities of patients suffered from back pain due to lumbar spondylosis.
