Abstract

Objectives: Describe the current situation of patient safety culture and analyze some influencing factors at the Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Quang Ngai province in 2023. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive design combining quantitative and qualitative research method was applied in the study 320 medical staff of the hospital were interviewed using questionaires in-depth interviews and two focus groups discussions were carried out. Result: The percentage of medical staff who responded positively about the overall patient safety culture was 72.1%. The high positive feedback rate is teamwork in departments (95.8%), continuous learning and improvement (94.5%), and management's views and actions (90.5%), feedback, information exchange about errors (81.5%), leadership support (80.6%), teamwork between departments (80.1%), awareness of internal safety (77.3%). Some responses were not positive such as the frequency of reporting incidents (67.4%), handover and transfer of patients (67.0%), openness of information about errors (57.3%), and no accusations. errors (44.5%), personnel (29.1%). Factors found affect to patient safety culture were education level, direct contact with patients, working conditions, system documents on patient safety, incident reporting system, the care of hospital leaders, reward/punishment mechanism, monitoring of patient safety performance. Conclusion: Patient safety culture is average. Based on influencing factors to have suitable solutions.
