Abstract

Objectives: To assess the results of laparoscopic surgery for choledochal cyst at Viet Duc University Hospital from 2016 to 2020. Methods: Retrospective descriptive study on patients with choledochal cyst treated with laparoscopic surgery in the research period. Results: Choledochal cysts are a congenital disease that is more common in females than males with a ratio of 8:1. Most patients with choledochal cysts do not have all the classic symptoms (right upper quadrant pain, jaundice, and abdominal mass) but only has 1-2 symptoms. 100% of patients underwent endoscopic surgery to excise the cyst and hepaticojejunostomy can be performed intracorporally or through a small incision around the umbilicus. During hospitalization, 11.11% had postoperative bile leakage and 7.41% had residual fluid after surgery, but all were treated medically and stabilized for discharge without the need for surgical intervention or reoperation. Conclusions:  Laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of choledochal cysts is a feasible, safe and low-complication surgery that should be widely applied at surgical facilities with experience in laparoscopic surgery
