EVALUATION OF QUALITY OF LIFE AFTER LAPAROSCOPIC GASTRTECTOMY FOR GASTRIC CANCER

Abstract

Objective In recent years, the survival rate after laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer has increased significantly. The quality of life of these patients have been also more concern. This study was conducted to investigate the quality of life of patient after laparoscopic gastrectomy and demonstrated the factors affecting their quality of life. Methods A retrospective cohort study including 82 patients with gastric cancer who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy between Jan-2017 and Dec-2019 at Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City. Questionnaire surveys were conducted using the EORTC QOL - C30 and QOL – ST022. Quality of life data was obtained from 82 gastric cancer, who were followed up after 3 years of gastrectomy. Data were analyzed using SPSS26. Results A total of 82 patients completed the questionnaire survey. In which, men make up the majority with 62.2%. The average quality of life score of patients was 75.26 +/-20. Comorbidities are mainly hypertension, accounting for 18.3%. Factors affecting patients' quality of life are pain, insomnia, nausea, heartburn, and alopecia. Conclusion The patient's quality of life 3 years after surgery is relatively low. Factors affecting the patient's quality of life should be considered in the interventions to improve their quality of life.
