CHARACTERISTICS OF CHEST X-RAY AND COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IMAGES OF PATIENTS WITH NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER

Abstract
Objective: Describe the characteristics of chest X-ray and computed tomography images of patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Objects and methods: A descriptive, retrospective study was collected from September 2019 to December 2021 at Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital Ho Chi Minh City with 272 patients who met the sample selection criteria. Result: Imaging features on chest X-ray: The most common tumor location is the right lung (62.4%), in which the right upper lobe is the most common (31.5%) and the tumor is most common in the periphery (55 .7%) than the center. The polylobulated margin or spiculated margin accounted for the majority (92.1%). The mean tumor size on radiograph was 5.3 ± 2cm. Most of the tumors were dense on radiographs (80.8%). Features of chest computed tomography of non-small cell lung cancer: Most of the tumors are peripheral (51.8%) and lung tumors are more common in the upper lobe than in other lobes (57.0%). Most of the tumors had polylobulated margin or spiculated margin (94.2%). The majority of tumors were completely dense (69.9%). Most tumor sizes are larger than 3cm (88.9%). Conclusion: In general, both X-ray and CT scan films are used to detect similar values such as the number, location, density, margins, and size of non-small cell lung tumor. However, CT scans are better at identifying the number of tumors than X-rays.
